The agreement between us

Exit Protocol is operated by Exit Protocol, a registered business in Jersey, Channel Islands ([JFSC registration no. pending]). By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into this agreement to use Exit Protocol.

Exit Protocol is a “dead man's switch”: you store encrypted information in a vault, you check in periodically to prove you are still around (your “Pulse”), and if you stop checking in for the period you have set, your sealed vault is delivered to the recipients you chose.

The service depends on you keeping your Pulse alive. If you check in, nothing is delivered. If you miss check-ins for your chosen window, delivery is triggered. You are responsible for setting a check-in schedule and recipients that reflect your intentions, and for testing delivery on yourself first if you want to see what your recipients will receive.

Your vault is encrypted with a key derived from your master password on your own device. This gives you a lock no one else holds a key to — including us.

You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your login credentials secure. Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

You choose who receives a vault and what contact details are used to reach them. By adding a recipient, you confirm you are entitled to provide their details for this purpose. You are responsible for keeping those details accurate — delivery can only work if the contact information you gave us is correct at the time it fires.

When delivery is triggered, each recipient must prove their identity (a one-time link plus a code sent to them) before a vault opens on their own device. We relay sealed vaults; we cannot read them, and we cannot guarantee a recipient will act on a delivery, still control the contact address you gave, or be reachable when the time comes.

You agree not to use Exit Protocol to:

• Break the law

  Store, or arrange delivery of, anything unlawful, or use the service to facilitate an unlawful act.
• Harm others

  Deliver content intended to harass, threaten, or harm a recipient or any third party.
• Infringe rights

  Store or share material you have no right to store or share.
• Attack the service

  Attempt to break, overload, reverse-engineer, or gain unauthorised access to the platform or other users' data.

We may suspend or close accounts that breach these rules, where we are lawfully able to and consistent with our privacy notice.

Setting up your vault and adding recipients is free. A paid subscription is what lets you arm your switch and keep it active. Payments are handled by our payment provider; we do not store your card details.

What a subscription affects is an active, living owner. If your subscription has lapsed and you then check in — which tells us you are alive and well — your switch is paused rather than kept running, and stays paused until you renew and resume it. In short: lapsing pauses monitoring for someone who is around to notice, but it never cancels a delivery already counting down for someone who is not.

Prices and plan features may change; we will give reasonable notice of changes that affect an active subscription. Subscriptions renew until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your billing settings; cancellation stops future renewals and takes effect at the end of the current period. We work hard to keep Exit Protocol running reliably and to deliver vaults faithfully when a switch fires. But the service is provided “as is”: we cannot promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that delivery will always succeed — delivery depends on factors outside our control, including your check-in behaviour, the accuracy of recipient details, and third-party email and messaging networks.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss arising from a forgotten master password, inaccurate recipient details, a lapsed subscription, or a failure of a third-party network beyond our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

You can close your account at any time from within the app. When you do, we delete your vaults, recipients, and account data as described in our privacy notice. We may suspend or end your access if you materially breach these terms or where we are required to by law.

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make a material change, we will take reasonable steps to let you know. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

These terms are governed by the laws of Jersey, Channel Islands, and the courts of Jersey have jurisdiction over any dispute, without affecting any mandatory rights you have under the law of your own country of residence.
